Using the Grapevine Advanced Serial Detector

The Grapevine Advanced Serial Detector (ASD) provides 8 occupancy and motion detectors and is intended for use with DCC systems.  The ASD is shown in Figure 1 with its connections identified.

Three ASDs can be daisy-chained together with one ASD attached to a Grapevine Node as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2. How to daisy-chain the ASD

The ASD attached to the Node is called the Master and must have no jumper attached on the Board Address Header.  Two additional ASDs can be connected to the Master and are called Slaves.  Each Slave must have a different address as selected by the jumper on the Board Address Header.

Figures 3 and 4 show the jumper position to identify Slave 1 and Slave 2 respectively.

The connections between the Master and Slave ASDs must be done carefully.  Figure 5 shows the connection made using the three wires twisted together to provide some shielding.  Minimum wire lengths should be used and twisted pair wiring or shielded cable should be used.  Note the connections to the DCC power, blocks and to the Grapvine Node.
